World Cancer Day: the reactor is essential

06 February 2025

February 4 is World Cancer Day. On this day, worldwide attention is paid to the impact that the disease has. This year the focus is on living with cancer. Whether you are a patient yourself or someone you love, the consequences of cancer on your life cannot be underestimated.

Every day, more than 30,000 patients benefit from the medical isotopes produced by NRG PALLAS in the reactor. And we do not only produce medical isotopes, but we also collaborate with physicians to develop new applications for even better cancer treatments. On World Cancer Day, we would like to talk about how Doj, one of our NRG PALLAS colleagues, contributes to this.

30,000 patients a day
Doj works with dedication as a Reactor Operator on the production of medical isotopes. For him, it is important that his work has a meaning. “It is nice to have a story to tell about my job and contribution. And that is helping those 30,000 patients a day,” says Doj in the video below.

Ready for the future
As a Reactor Operator, Doj is enthusiastic about the future. We are currently working on the new PALLAS-reactor, the successor of the current reactor. “I am looking forward to learn how the use the new installation,” says Doj. “And it is nice for the environment and for the medical branch. We can keep helping people. It is something really positive.

Meaningful work
Doj is one of the many dedicated employees of NRG PALLAS, spread across locations in Petten, Alkmaar and Arnhem. Every day they work on the production of medical isotopes, the associated research and much more. The medical isotopes are essential for diagnosing and treating several types of cancer, but also cardiovascular diseases, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
